From Seven Easy Pieces to DKNY
Donna Karan and Stephan Weiss founded the house in 1984 with Seven Easy Pieces, a first collection built around a wardrobe that could move from day to evening without a full change. That idea still explains why a DKNY jersey dress, blazer or coat is meant to do more than one job in the same day.
DKNY was established in 1989 as the younger, city-priced line and added its first menswear collection in 1991. The brand kept the practical Donna Karan wardrobe logic, but moved it into a sharper city language: logo tees, jeans, coats, handbags and watches rather than dressed-up occasion pieces.
