From Dassler spikes to three stripes
The Adidas story runs through Herzogenaurach, where Adolf and Rudolf Dassler registered their shoe factory in 1924. Jesse Owens ran in Dassler spikes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, long before the name Adidas appeared on a shop sign.
After the brothers split, Adolf “Adi” Dassler registered adidas in 1949 and the three stripes became its mark. The Bern final in 1954 tied the brand to football boots with screw-in studs, while the Trefoil arrived in 1972 for the Munich Olympics.
That mix is what makes the Adidas shelves in Tbilisi worth checking carefully: football gear, running shoes and Originals pieces can all appear in one delivery.
